Letter, 1776 May 18.

Thomas L. Lee notes enclosure of the resolves adopted by the Virginia Constitutional Convention and requests advice and comments from Richard H. Lee, his brother, a member of the Continental Congress. The enclosure has not been located. The committee's report was adopted on May 15, 1776. It included the resolutions that the united colonies be declared "free and independent states" and that a committee be appointed to prepare a declaration of rights and a plan of government for the colony. Richard Henry Lee did much to promote adoption of the resolutions and he was chosen to present them before Congress.
